| Cristian Desmarchelier,
Ph.D. Founder & Chief Consultant Cristian
Desmarchelier is a Biologist and Ph.D. of the
School of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University
of Buenos Aires, Argentina (natural products).
Worked as a research assistant and chief investigator
in several research projects focused on the
search for antioxidant and antitumour activity
in South American medicinal plants at the University
of Buenos Aires and at the Argentine National
Council of Science and Technology (CONICET).
Co-author of 30 research papers published in
national and international natural products
journals, 5 articles, 2 books, and one book
chapter. In 2001 started the "NeoTropico"
Peruvian medicinal plants project. Also held
a technical assistant position in the Argentine
Project of Primary Health Care with Phytomedicines
in the Argentine Society of Phytomedicine (AAF)
and worked as an external consultant for EU
sustainable development projects in the Central
Peruvian Amazon. At present is a scientific
advisor to the AAF, project manager for the
"Artemisia Project" from the Fundación
Mundo Sano in Argentina, and an external consultant
to a Canadian pharmaceutical company.
Jorge Alonso,
M.D. Founder & Academic Director
Jorge Alonso obtained an M.D. degree at the
University of Buenos Aires. Since 1993, he
has been the founder and president of the
Argentine Association of Phytomedicine. Dr.
Alonso is also the director and professor
at several post-graduate courses at different
institutions in Argentina, Brazil and Spain.
He is also co-director of the workshop "Medicinal
Plants in Primary Health Attention",
sponsored by the WHO. Author of the renowned
book entitled "Tratado de Fitofármacos
y Nutracéuticos" (2004), he has
also participated as a co-author in 5 books
on medicinal plants, phytomedicine and pharmaceutical
attention. Dr. Alonso is the director of the
Argentine magazine "Fitociencia",
and also a member of several renown scientific
societies. At present, Dr. Alonso is the local
coordinator of the Argentine Project of Primary
Health Care with Phytomedicines (Argentine
Association of Phytomedicine), and also acts
as an external consultant to several pharmaceutical
laboratories.

Fernando Witting Schaus, Forestry Engineer,
and Field Manager at NeoTropico Consultants.
Fernando Witting is a forestry
engineer from the Universidad Nacional Agraria
La Molina, in Lima Perú. With a
vast experience of more than 16 years not only
in Peru but in other neotropical regions such
as Bolivia and Brazil, he is currently a specialist
in integrated rural development in tropical
regions, mostly regarding project management
and entrepreneural activities in the fields
of forestry, agriculture, and environment. Together
with Cristian Desmarchelier, he is the co-author
of the book "60 Medicinal Plants form the
Peruvian Amazon: Ecology, Ethnomedicine and
Bioactivity".
